Due to their safety and effectiveness anti-wrinkle injections have become one of the
most requested and performed procedures worldwide.
This treatment significantly reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles on your forehead, inbetween your eyebrows
and around your eyes.
Most people will need one of these areas treated which will give them a fresh and younger look.
It is important to emphasise that anti-wrinkle injections are prescription medication and should only be prescribed by
doctors, dentist or qualified nurse prescribers.
What areas does it treat?
Anti-wrinkle treatment covers the following areas:
- Vertical line between eyebrows (frown lines/glabella)
- Horizontal lines on the forehead
- Lines around the eyes or smile lines (crows feet)
- Some areas of the lower part of the face
- It also gives a natural brow lift
How is the procedure performed?
Using a very thin and small needle a few drops are injected underneath the skin into the muscle causing the wrinkles. The number of injections will vary
according to the muscles being injected.
How does it work?
The wrinkles usually appear due to the muscle contraction effect underneath the skin. The purified toxin will relax the muscle and stop it from
contracting and this will significantly reduce the wrinkles or make them disappear.
The anti-wrinkle effect will usually last 3 to 4 months and on some occasions longer.
Is it painful?
The procedure is very quick and straightforward with minimal pain.
Is it safe?
It is an extremely safe and effective treatment for most people. Over the last 20 years its safety record has been excellent.
Nevertheless it is important that all customers have a full medical assessment to exclude any rare medical problems or the use of any medications that
might not be appropriate for anti-wrinkle treatment.
Pregnant or breast feeding women should not have this procedure.
Does it have side effects?
The side effects are generally minimal. They include the immediate side effects from the injection such as redness and swelling and a small proportion of
people might experience headaches that will only last for few days.
In extremely rare cases patients might experience drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow. This risk can be minimised with good injection techniques
especially for injections very close to the eyes. Drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow is not permanent and will usually wear off within 3 to 4 weeks.
Is there a follow-up appointment?
All patients will be followed up 2 weeks after the treatment for a check-up.
What can I expect from this treatment?
The effect of the treatment is usually visible 3 to 5 days after the injection. It can take up between 2 to 3 weeks for the full effect to be seen.
It will usually last between 3 and 4 months and the results will usually last longer with repeated treatments.
What are the limitations of the treatment?
If a patient has very deep wrinkles then an anti-wrinkle treatment on its own will not reduce the lines and other treatments such as fillers might also be needed.
